July update from Ace’s foster:
Ace just had his first visit to Petsmart and although very curious of things around him, he was not reactive. Lots of butt wiggles as we walked by people, little pulling when he saw other dogs (working on leash walking). He was not phased when we walked by the cats and fish.
At home, he learning to “wait and walk” out of his crate, but insists on barreling out like a bull…(for real even bucks and makes the famous boxer ‘U’s) and then takes off in the yard for about 5 minutes of zoomies. A fenced yard is a must for this angel.
He is learning to get along better with his foster pup sis and does not like being away from them. He would do best with one other dog who is not extremely dominant. Ace loves to bark. He feels it’s his job to let me know when anyone is near our yard or if his foster sis’ are playing too rough, or if he is not getting his share of attention (as if).
He is a super cuddler and loves to be your second skin and if you set space boundaries, he will find a way to have his paw touch you somehow. If you haven’t found your shadow, he will be it and rest his muzzle on you in case you can’t see all 75lbs of him. He does well in his crate when the human is not home and will only bark for 5-10 minutes and then he settles. He does not like to be alone (he will bark endlessly). He does better with his foster fur sisters in the house.
Big boy is not a big ‘jumper’ but does climb up on the bed, couch, chair – some of his favorite places to cuddle with a human or other pups. He does like to paw the counters to be sure I cleaned well. He still shows signs of guarding if another dog gets too close to the person he is cuddling with, but he no longer growls with people.
He is now sitting on command and does well with “away”. (Out of the kitchen while I’m cooking). He is almost there with ‘sit’ and ‘walk’ through thresholds. He is a bit stubborn, but when he realizes you are the pack leader, learns quickly. He even watches the other dogs and copies them. Ace watches my Bella play catch and return with her ball and has been trying it on his own. He LOVES tug a war!
Ace had a great visit at the vet today and is ready for his neuter next week!
