ALDRICH

UPDATE: 6-16-08 (from his foster mom shelley)
Aldrich is a crazy man.  I cannot wait to be able to let him run free w/ the rest of the pack.  He plays super hard and I am his personal chew-toy at the moment.  Not by choice mind you.  He loves toes, I mean LOVES them.  Today is the 2-week mark that he came into rescue.  He is currently rummaging through our "doggie toy box" to look for something new to play with.  He loves my slippers and throws them in the air and then pounces on them.  He is a typical boxer puppy and is just great. Every day he gets stronger and stronger and looks better and better. thank you EVERYONE for helping save this boys life!

UPDATE: 6-6-08
Since Cooper Aldrich was admitted to REACH Animal Hospital on Sat he has had quite a rollercoaster of results.  He continues to get IV antibiotics and fluids.  Every weekday he has spent at Avery Creek Pet Hospital continuing fluids and monitoring.  Monday night he was doing well enough to come home w/ a volunteer while continuing fluids, there he did have some some puppy energy and tried to play.  Which was encouraging.  Tuesday night he had had a few setbacks during that day after trying to see if he could keep some food down (he ended up w/ diarreaha and some vomiting) so they felt he needed to be hospitalized that night.  Funny thing is that in the car on the way to REACH and as we waited in our treatment room he was so full of life.  In the car he smooshed his e-collar up against the back of my seat trying to give me kisses and in the treatment room he was trying to box me w/ his e-collar on.  Eventually we took off the e-collar so we could play and he pranced around the room like he was king of the world.  What a goober.  Anyway, last night the vet felt as though Cooper Aldrich didn't need to be hospitalized but that they did wanted to administer an additional injectable antibiotic and continue aggressive IV treatment overnight.  So they kept him at Avery Creek and the Dr. went to check on him last night and give him the injection.  When I talked with the vet this morning they said that he seems to be looking really well this today.  He made it through the night w/out any diarreaha or vomiting and that if all continues on this course then they will try some chicken broth this am and then some food later.  The vet is "cautiously optimistic" that he may be able to go home tonight and perhaps w/out having to have IV fluids.  He seems to be keeping water down and his white blood cell count has continued to be good but please continue to keep him in your prayers as he still needs them very much.

He's doing better today.  He received a 2nd bag of fluids.  and he was no longer vomitting.  He was alert.  They will continue to watch him at REACH overnight and he will be transferred to Avery's Creek in themorning.

Just got off the phone w/ the ER VET.  They said that they overnight tech reported that he was very depressed all night (phone guy reported that usually that happens when they are just so so exhausted).  However, this morning between shift change he decided to chew out his IV cathetar, and when the morning techs went in to check on him they reported that he was a bit perked up.  Very excited about that for sure.  =)

Aldrich was found as a stray by a good semaritan who knows one of BRBR's volunteers. As soon as our volunteer got Aldrich home she realized something was wrong. He would not eat and only drank a small amount of water. His head was also "shaking" and when he had a bowel movement it was ALL liquid. Shelley, his foster mom rushed him to the ER vet where they diagnosed him with Parvo. He is currently there, getting IV fluids, medications for Parva and being watched closely...It is touch and go at this point but the vet said his chances are 50/50 right now. Please say a prayer for this boy. He has not been on this earth long enough to leave us already! Please consider donating to his "Baby bank" so we can help save his life!
